Modern Apartment Interior Design in Brussels

The pictures below are trying to capture the design of an apartment in Brussels. The project belongs to Agence Andrée Putman and gives a new and modern meaning to contemporary living. There have been many opinions expressed regarding this interior design and this is one of them : “When Agence Andrée Putman designs a duplex for a Brussels heiress, it’s clear that women rule” (Judy Fayard).

Interior Design

There are many different approaches to interior design, from traditional looking homes, period homes and then the ultra futuristic and everything in between! Yet one of the most popular design styles always remains to be a 'modern living' look.

To some people a 'modern' house just means minimalism with all the latest gadgetry and nothing more, however modernism is really so much more than that. It is set apart from a lot of interior design styles in that it is ever changing; Modern today is not modern tomorrow.

Modern interior design trends incorporate ideas and methods from other design styles as they come and go from fashion, as such it is often difficult for you to decorate a room in a modern style without making a choice of what modern styles you like or dislike yourself.

When it comes to colours used in modern design there is always two constants, black and white. White is used excessively in modern designs, simply because it is never a colour that goes out of fashion and always gives a fresh and up to date feel. The same is true for black, although the amount of black used can vary widely.

Currently however light pastel colours are heavily being used, especially as accent colours in a white room. This combination gives a grand illusion of space, making any room look larger and giving it greater depth. When combined with clever use of mirrors and other reflective pieces of furniture this can really combine to give a stunning look.

To achieve a look of modernism is to borrow mostly upon minimalism, although modernism currently allows much more leeway than a true minimalistic design. Sometimes described as minimalism for real living, rather than for show. This approach means that you are not restricted by your design style, you merely use it to enhance the aesthetics of your home.

It is also worth pointing out that contemporary is not the same as modern, even though they are sometimes confused or used to mean the same thing. Contemporary designs use elements from the past while yet still maintaining to give a present day feel. They do this by borrowing styles and pieces of furniture from the 60's and 70's that were meant to be ultra modern or even slightly futuristic which now fit in with some of today’s modern styles.

A true modern style will only use new and up to date design ideas to create it's style, although this is normally ignored and contemporary elements are often brought into the design. This allows you to use a far greater variety of ideas such as acrylic furniture, which while not in today’s modern styles do give a contemporary feel to any room.

Home Cleaning :

Cleaning your home not only makes it shine like new and more hygienic but the process itself provides you with adequate physical exercise to keep you fit and healthy. It can be the positive point that you can meditate upon to prepare yourself to start and finish the arduous cleaning projects and its innumerable chores. Start cleaning your house with a positive attitude and you will find that you can actually enjoy the whole thing. Remember that you are doing the cleaning to give yourself an organized, tidy and sanitary environment and safe and healthy place to live in to your family. Taking help from the family members and even children will help you spend quality time with them.

Children can do small things like throwing things in the dustbin or collecting small but scattered things and put them in a box. This will also make them learn the need to keep things in place and keep their room tidy. They will also learn the value of keeping things organized. Besides the daily cleaning chores like sweeping the floors and cleaning kitchen countertop and washing dishes, you can do the rest of the work on weekends and major cleaning during vacations. Regular cleaning will keep your home shining and sparkling and you will take less time to give it a new look. Plan the most tiresome tasks for the specific fixed time of the day, when your energy level is highest and it should be essential for everybody in the household to clean and organize their own rooms to reduce your burden.

Home Finishing

* The first thing you must do is to focus on what you like or dislike, whether it is style, fabric or colors.
* Decide on the style you want to use to furnish your house whether it is casual, traditional, French or modern.
* If you cannot make up your mind then buy a few interior decoration books. Go through them and you will be able to decide on a style that you like.
* The next step is to decide the colors you want to use to furnish your house. Choose colors that come to your mind when you say the word 'home'. Combine these colors to get more colors. Contrast and compliment the colors you like.
* Each room has a specific function from the user's point of view. Furnish the room depending on how you want to use it. For example you may want to use to kitchen as your dinning space as well. Then you will need to have a dinning table and chairs in the kitchen.
* A number of times the view that you get from your windows will dictate the way you furnish your house. If you can see the countryside from your window, then your interior décor and furnishing will match the country mood. If it is an urban cityscape that you can see from your window then your furnishing will be modern.
* Choose furniture that you are comfortable with. Do not go in for a particular style just because it is in vogue.
* You should be comfortable with the theme and the manner in which you have furnished your home. You should be able to relax and feel comfortable with the decorating you have done.
* Remember that your home should reflect your personality, taste and preferences and not someone else's.

Colorful of Modern Bedroom Interior

kids room interior decoration

When it comes to planning and decorating bedrooms or play areas for children -- whatever their age -- take inspiration from the memories of your own youth. Revisit your childhood to try to recapture something of the fun and exuberance of your earliest years. Can you remember when there seemed to be no rules no preconceptions about anything, least of all interior design?

Small children are naturally attracted to bright colors, strong patterns and familiar images, whatever form they take, so try to incorporate all these elements into their surroundings to give them a lively and spontaneous flavor.

Bear in mind that a room scheme should develop with the child and accommodate his or hers changing tastes and needs -- the bedroom of a boisterous toddler serves a very different purpose to a teenager's private and fiercely-guarded hideaway. With a little forethought, however, you can plan a space that is both stylish and adaptable and one that your children can grow up with happily.

If you are starting a room from scratch and furnishing a nursery for a new baby, it may be tempting to go for the full-on coordinated look available from high-end stores. Changing tables, cribs and and dressers, complete with matching rugs, curtains and wallpaper may be the ideal solution for the first few years, but they are expensive, soon outgrown and, when the design choices have already been made for you, they provide little scope for individuality. It is far better (and more economical in the long run) to start off with a few good pieces of basic furniture, plain walls and ceiling, and a simple floor covering. You can then introduce blocks of color and pattern by means of the soft furnishings, bedding and accessories. These can easily be changed and updated, the furniture can be repainted when a new look is demanded.

Young children's rooms are not really the place for subtle colors. You only have to look at their boxed games, dolls, fluffy stuffed toys and picture books to be confronted with an onslaught of bright primary colors. So look to crisp greens, vivid reds, and clear blues as a starting point for the soft furnishings. A jumbled mix of stripes, checks and cheerful gingham always work well together and would look good in either boy's or girl's room.

If you prefer to incorporate some pattern, there are some great retro-style prints about, featuring cowboy or seaside themes. However, special children's fabrics depicting beloved cartoon characters, super heroes or pop idols, are bound to be their favorite. If you start with out with a simple, classic theme of which your child approves -- nautical, sports, zoo animals, colorful fruit and flowers, little princess or Shaker inspired folk art -- you can share your enthusiasm and build on it together by adding curtains, cushions, throws and new bed linens. The fabric should be hard wearing and easy to care for, as they are bound to get well used, covered in sticky fingerprints.

Children spend a lot of time playing sitting and rolling on the floor, so a few large cushions or beanbags will make life a bit more comfortable.

You may also find it useful to have large quilts in the playroom or bedroom. They will provide extra bedding, but will also double up as soft play mats, cover an armchair or sofa to protect the upholstery or stand in as a magic flying carpet when necessary.
